It really is a great time to take a break, spend some quality time with family, remember what the year of toil was actually for, and reset your mind for a prosperous 2015.
One thing we like to remind everyone just before this break every year, is how the very nature of Christmas creates a paradise for thieves. With your business for example, most often entire businesses take a break over Christmas. Offices often shut down completely, with compulsory leave periods for all staff. There is no-one at the business premises for weeks, keeping an eye on the company’s building and assets.
Contrarily, if you are in retail or hospitality, often this is your peak season. Often the amount of cash changing hands in your premises over the coming weeks will be hundreds of percentages above your average weekly takings during the rest of the year. So on one hand – we have vacant offices. On the other, big movements of cash. These are two things that thieves and burglars love.
What about at home? Well, everyone goes shopping and buys expensive gifts at this time of year. Come Christmas day, we open them, then go out to celebrate the day with family and friends, leaving all these expensive products unattended at home. Often we will take a holiday, leaving our homes empty for a couple of weeks. Unless you ask someone to help, your mail will build up in your letterbox, your bins won’t go out and your curtains will remain permanently open or shut.
